Our story at Tropical Day Studio

"I teach children to see the world through the eyes of an artist."

- Chelsea, Founder & Art Instructor

Our inspiration: A love for art and learning

Tropical Day Studio was created from my love of art and my belief that every child deserves the opportunity to develop their creativity and artistic skills. I wanted to create a homeschool art program where students could learn real art techniques, explore a variety of mediums, study artists and art history, and gain the confidence to see themselves as artists.

I believe that learning the fundamentals of art gives students a strong foundation for creative growth. My goal is to provide a welcoming, hands-on environment where homeschool students can slow down, experiment, make mistakes, discover what they enjoy, and grow into confident, creative artists.

Meet Chelsea

Artist • Art Educator • Founder of Tropical Day Studio

I've loved art for as long as I can remember. Creating has always been a meaningful part of my life, and that love eventually led me to study art at Brigham Young University, where I earned my BA in Art, with minors in Spanish and Psychology.

I'm an artist who loves exploring just about every medium. I especially enjoy drawing with graphite and charcoal, painting with watercolor, gouache, and oils, and experimenting with printmaking. I love drawing people, painting landscapes, and creating still-life artwork. Outside of teaching, I continue to create and sell my own artwork through commissions, original pieces, and seasonal art.

A Love for Teaching

I've been teaching children since 2018, when I began working as a gymnastics coach. In 2022, I brought my love of teaching and art together and began teaching art.

What I love most about teaching children is getting to know their unique personalities. Kids are creative, curious, funny, and wonderfully themselves, and I love giving them a place to express that personality through art. There is something really special about watching a student discover that their ideas can become something they created with their own hands.

Why Tropical Day Studio?

Tropical Day Studio began as my personal art business, but I wanted to create something more—a place where I could share my love and knowledge of art with young artists.

I believe that learning foundational art skills and techniques is an important part of becoming a confident artist. When students understand how to use their materials and learn the fundamentals of drawing, painting, color, composition, and other artistic techniques, they have more freedom to express their own creative ideas.

I've found that many students actually feel more comfortable creating when they understand the techniques behind what they're doing. Instead of worrying about whether they are "good at art," they can focus on learning a skill, experimenting, and discovering what they are capable of.

That's what I hope to give my students: the skills to create and the confidence to see themselves as artists.

Why "Tropical Day"?

The name Tropical Day Studio is a little piece of me. "Tropical" comes from my love of all things tropical and my time living in Florida, Hawaii and now South Carolina. The tropical lifestyle and environment have always been a part of who I am, so I wanted to bring that little piece of myself into my art business.

My Hope for Every Student

My goal is for every student who walks into Tropical Day Studio to feel welcomed, encouraged, and excited to create. I want students to learn real artistic skills while still having the freedom to explore their own ideas, personalities, and creative voices.

Most importantly, I want them to leave class thinking:

"I can be an artist."
